GS1 Barcode Parser

Decode GS1 Application Identifiers from raw or bracketed barcode data — GTIN, batch, dates, serial and more.

Bracketed form, e.g. (01)12345678901231(17)251231, or raw scanner output.

About this tool

A GS1-128 barcode packs several pieces of data into one scan — a GTIN, a batch number, an expiry date, a serial — each marked by a 2-4 digit Application Identifier that only means something if you have the AI table memorized. This decodes both the bracketed human-readable notation and raw scanner output.

How to use it

  1. Paste either the bracketed form, e.g. (01)12345678901231(17)251231, or raw scanner output.
  2. Press Parse to see every field decoded with its AI, name and value — dates are rendered in full (YYYY-MM-DD), not left as YYMMDD.

Examples

A product with a batch and expiry

(01)12345678901231(17)251231(10)ABC123
GTIN 12345678901231, Expiration date 2025-12-31, Batch/Lot ABC123.

Common problems

A field the barcode should contain isn't recognized.
This covers the AIs that show up on real logistics and retail labels — GTIN, dates, batch/serial, weight and dimension AIs, GLNs — not the full GS1 General Specifications' hundreds of industry-specific identifiers. An unrecognized segment is still shown, just not decoded further.
