About this tool
Carriers charge for space as well as mass. A box of pillows weighs almost nothing but fills a van, so every carrier calculates a second, dimensional figure — volumetric weight — and bills whichever number is higher.
The formula is width × length × height ÷ divisor, with all three dimensions in centimetres. The divisor is the part that varies: Turkish domestic carriers usually use 3000, where the same box would be calculated with 5000 or 6000 for international air freight. A lower divisor means a higher billed weight.
How to use it
- Measure the parcel at its widest points, including padding and any bulge in the packaging.
- Enter width, length and height in centimetres.
- Set the divisor your carrier uses. Check your contract — this single number changes the result substantially.
- Optionally enter the actual weight to see which of the two the carrier will bill.

Common problems
- The carrier's invoice is higher than the figure here.
- Almost always a different divisor, or dimensions measured differently. Carriers measure the outer box at its widest point and round each dimension up to the next centimetre.
- The result is much larger than the actual weight.
- The parcel is bulky relative to its mass. Use a box that fits the contents: dropping one dimension by a few centimetres can move the parcel down a whole price band.
- Different carriers give different numbers for the same box.
- That is expected. The divisor is set by the carrier and varies by service level and contract. Compare using each carrier's own divisor.
