About this tool
Two `.env` files rarely differ in an obvious way — a key reordered, one value quietly changed, one new flag added by a teammate. Diffing them by key rather than by line catches all three without the noise of a plain text diff.
How to use it
- Paste the before and after `.env` content.
- Press Compare. Added, removed and changed keys are listed — unchanged ones are hidden by default.
- Values are masked by default since `.env` files often hold secrets; uncheck to see them in full.
Examples
Common problems
- A key I know changed shows as unchanged.
- Whitespace inside a quoted value is preserved, but quotes themselves are stripped before comparing — if only the quoting style changed (unquoted to quoted) with an identical inner value, that's correctly treated as no change.
