About this tool

Base32 encodes binary data into a 32-character alphabet (A–Z, 2–7), trading some of Base64's density for an alphabet that's case-insensitive and safe to read aloud — which is why TOTP two-factor secrets, and some DNS and filesystem-name encodings, use it instead of Base64.

How to use it

  1. Type or paste text and it's encoded to Base32 immediately.
  2. Switch to Decode and paste a Base32 string to get the original text back.
  3. Switching modes copies the current output into the input, so you can verify the round trip.

Examples

Encoding a short string

Hello!

Common problems

Decoding fails with an invalid character error.
Base32 only uses A–Z and 2–7 — it excludes 0, 1, 8 and 9 to avoid confusion with O, I, B and G. Check for a stray character, especially if you copied the value from a QR code image.
